The Institute’s Education and Training Center/International hosted a group of Iraqi youth from many parts of Iraq on August 25. The 25 youth, ages 15-18, were in the United States for several weeks as part of an International Visitor’s program. The short program at USIP included an awareness-raising activity on ways to overcome potentially polarizing identity issues that impact their home communities, as well as discussion of challenges and opportunities for youth to contribute to peace in Iraq. The youth were trained on leadership and civic engagement during their program, and their visit to USIP reinforced those themes as well as made them aware of their potential role as Iraqi peace-builders.
