Second Training for Afghan Conflict Resolution Professionals

In this session, participants discussed how have been using used what they learned in the first workshop, held in April, to help resolve conflicts and solve problems in their local communities.

Istanbul Declaration
USIP convened a groundbreaking conference on media and conflict in Iraq in Istanbul May 14-16, 2008. The event was part of the Institute’s Iraq and its Neighbors project and was co-hosted by the Center for Sustainable Peace at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul.
Leadership Skills Training for Pakistani Women Leaders
Nina Sughrue and Linda Bishai of the Education and Training Center/International conducted a workshop in Islamabad for Pakistani women leaders on negotiation and problem solving, in conjunction with local think tank the Sustainable Development and Policy Institute (SDPI), May 20-22, 2008. The women hailed from Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta, and were from a wide range of backgrounds - NGOs, academia, and private sector.
Conflict Management and Resolution Training for the Inter-American Defense College
In May 2008, the United States Institute of Peace's (USIP) Ted Feifer, Maria Jessop-Mandel, and Mary Hope Schwoebel and the Organization of American States' (OAS) Logioco Bautista, presented a course on "Conflict Management and Resolution" to the 64 students of Class XLVII of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) at Fort McNair.
