NEGOTIATING ON THE EDGE: North Korean Negotiating Behavior
The discussion focused on the continuing threat to regional and international security posed by North Korea, and the special challenge of negotiating with the Pyongyang regime. Issues discussed included:
- The challenges of assessing the intentions of the North Korean leadership;
- Identifying and understanding recurring methods and patterns in the "unpredictable" North Korean negotiating style; and
- Lessons learned for U.S. policymakers on the eve of planned high level talks in Washington.
A Question & Answer period followed the speakers' remarks. The panel also fielded questions from the webcast audience.
