(Washington) – U.S. Institute of Peace President Jim Marshall issued the following statement upon former Senator Chuck Hagel swearing-in as secretary of defense.

“On behalf of the U.S. Institute of Peace, I congratulate Chuck Hagel as he assumes the office of secretary of defense. As the armed services too often pay a steep price in conflict, the Institute has a strong history of partnership with the Department of Defense with a shared appreciation of conflict prevention and international stability. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our Defense Department colleagues under the direction of Secretary Hagel.”
