In partnership with the Colombia-based "Ideas for Peace" Foundation (Fundacion "Ideas Para la Paz"), the Institute conducted a Practitioner´s Workshop in Resolving Conflict and Building Civil Society for some 40 Colombians actively engaged in addressing the challenges facing their country. Participants came both from Bogota and many other cities (Yopai, Medellin, Cali, Popayan, Monteria, and Tolima). They included NGO representatives, local and national government officials, military officers, religious leaders, academics, and members of the private sector.

The workshop addressed negotiation styles and strategies, third-party roles/mediation, and conflict analysis/problem solving. Participants highlighted the value of applying what they had learned in exercises and scenarios conducted after formal presentations. The program also included presentations by representatives of the Colombian Government and the International Office of Migration addressing real-world problems, and the participants concluded the Workshop by forming different working groups to apply the lessons of the workshop to developing a vision for Colombia´s future and practical steps to help bring that future about. A significant portion of the Workshop was conducted in Spanish.
