Margarita S. Studemeister Digital Library in International Conflict Management

  • The Peace Agreements Digital Collection strives to contain the full text of agreements signed by the major contending parties ending inter- and intra-state conflicts worldwide since 1989.
  • The Truth Commissions Digital Collection contains profiles of truth commissions and substantive bodies of inquiry from nations worldwide, offering general background information on the composition of each body, links to the official legislative texts establishing such commissions, and each commission's final reports and findings.
  • The Oral Histories Project on Stability Operations collects the full text of interviews that were conducted by the Institute's Center for Post-Conflict Peace and Stability Operations program with individuals involved in stability operations, to draw lessons learned and address the challenges of post-conflict intervention. Robert Perito served as the project coordinator.

Background

The digital library was named to honor Margarita S. Studemeister, former director of the USIP Jeannette Rankin Library Program (1994-2003), for her pioneering work in the creation and development of a digital library with the goal of strengthening worldwide access to resources dealing with the prevention, management and resolution of international conflict. The first two collections, Peace Agreements and Truth Commissions, were created by the Jeannette Rankin Library Program in 1996 and 1998. The Oral Histories Project on Stability Operations followed in 2005. USIP's development of a digital library reflects its commitment to innovative technologies, collaboration and resource-sharing to strengthen preventive diplomacy, the management of international relations and the resolution of conflicts worldwide.
