Conflict resolution training in Darfur, Sudan
A multi-role simulation in progress. Conflict analysis and problem-solving frameworks were applied through working groups at the workshops.

Washington - USIP Professional Training program officers Jonathan Morgenstein and Jacqueline Wilson have both just returned from Darfur, Sudan, where they conducted their second three-day training workshop on conflict resolution skills and customary law in two months.

Workshop participants included the senior leaders of all major tribal groups from all three regions in Darfur as well as women, civil society groups, and representatives of the Government of Sudan. "The workshop served as the first meeting of such senior leadership from all of the represented tribes in ten years," said local partner Mohammed Tahir.

"These training programs provide critical skills for the peaceful resolution of conflict to the leaders who will be primarily responsible for bringing the peace agreement to the people of Darfur," said Wilson.

Morgenstein and Wilson are available for comment on the impact of the Abuja Accords on the ground in Darfur and future prospects for peace in the region.
