(Washington, D.C.) -- Today at 10am, U.S. Institute of Peace President Nancy Lindborg will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in a hearing on “The U.S. Role and Strategy in the Middle East: The Humanitarian Crisis.” Lindborg will be speaking alongside Dr. Michel Gabaudan, president of Refugees International, and the Right Honorable David Miliband, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee.

In her written testimony submitted to the committee, Lindborg calls for: redoubling efforts to address the root causes of violent conflicts that are driving these cascades of crisis; meeting the immediate humanitarian needs of the refugees; recasting assistance to emphasize longer-term resilience and the rebuilding of social cohesion; enabling a return home for those able and willing; and for the U.S. to absorb more than the currently planned 100,000 refugees through 2017.

Upon delivery, Lindborg’s written testimony is available here. Watch the proceedings live here.

Lindborg recently published an op-ed in Foreign Policy discussing Europe’s refugee crisis and the need to intensify international efforts to provide aid to the conflict zones.
