Georgia's domestic political turmoil has escalated in recent months, resulting in mass demonstrations in the capital, and a short-lived declaration of emergency and shut-down of anti-government media. Part of the opposition already appears ready to dispute the early presidential election set for January. Meanwhile, tensions have risen sharply and military confrontations and incidents have occurred between the government and the secessionist areas of South Ossetia and Abhazia supported by Russia. The OSCE mission staff participating in the training work on issues such as as modalities for the upcoming presidential election, border monitoring, and project implementation in the conflict area of South Ossetia.
