On March 18, 2014, the U.S. Institute of Peace and National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces (Etilaf) co-hosted a conversation to address the Syrian opposition’s perspectives on the Geneva process and the role of diplomacy in resolving the conflict.
On March 12, 2014, the U.S. Institute of Peace and Oxfam America co-hosted the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and two civil society activists to address the humanitarian and political challenges of the Syrian conflict.
On March 5, 2014, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Institute of Peace co-hosted a panel session featuring remarks from the 2014 International Women of Courage Awardees at USIP. This was the only occasion the general public heard stories from the award recipients themselves in a public setting.
The U.S. Institute of Peace, Voice of America, and Alliance in Support of the Afghan People hosted a two panel public event that examined the U.S.-Afghan relationship, both its history and its future potential. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador James Dobbins delivered the keynote address.
In this half-day conference, the U.S. Institute of Peace and the George Washington University’s Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication hosted two panels of experts on social media’s role in political protest and civil war across the Middle East and Europe as part of a discussion on the latest Blogs and Bullets report: Syria’s Socially Mediated War.

The United States Institute of Peace hosted a panel discussion to launch its latest book, Getting it Right in Afghanistan, on what needs to be done in 2014 in Afghanistan. Panelists included Ghost Wars author Steve Coll, former Afghan Ambassador Omar Samad, and USIP’s Moeed Yusuf. The panel discussion was preceded by an introduction by Andrew Wilder, and a brief presentation of the book by Scott Smith.
