Peace, Security, and Reconciliation with the Taliban
A discussion with the Honorable Prof. Sibghatullah Al-Mojaddedi, chairman of the Afghan Upper House and former president of the Islamic Interim Government of Afghanistan
In his long career as a leading religious and political figure in Afghanistan, Professor Sibghatullah Al-Mojaddedi has served as university professor, political prisoner, leader of the Afghan National Liberation Front—an anti-communist mujahideen party, interim president, and chairman of Afghanistan's 2003 constitutional convention. Professor Al-Mojaddedi is currently chairman of Afghanistan's democratically-elected upper house of parliament, and chairman of the National Commission for Peace and Reconciliation, the official entity charged with bringing armed opposition to the Afghan government in from the cold.
Professor Al-Mojaddedi will address the current political and security situation in Afghanistan, relations with Pakistan, the reconciliation program with moderate Taliban, and the growth of democratic institutions in Afghanistan.
