Turning War Into Peace: An Insider’s Story
Senior Fellow Project Report
Senior Fellow Betty Bigombe is currently writing a book on the art of mediation. In her project report, she will share her experiences and insights from her work on the conflict in northern Uganda. Bigombe will discuss the problems posed by intra-state conflicts, her unique role as a female mediator in Africa, and the role of the international community in conflict resolution.
Bigombe has been involved in peace negotiations in Uganda to end the Lord’s Resistance Army’s (LRA) insurgency since the early 1990s. She has mediated in both public and private capacities, and has worked for the World Bank as a senior social scientist with the bank’s post-conflict unit.
