(Washington) – The Hague Institute for Global Justice (HIGJ) announced today that Dr. Abiodun Williams, currently a senior vice president at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), will assume the HIGJ’s presidency on January 1, 2013.

As senior vice president of USIP’s Center for Conflict Management (CCM), Williams leads the Institute’s work in major conflict zones including Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, the Middle East and North Africa. Prior to joining USIP, he served as associate dean of the Africa Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University and as director of strategic planning in the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General.

“The Hague Institute for Global Justice has made a wonderful choice in selecting Abiodun Williams as their first president, “ said USIP President Jim Marshall. “As our senior vice president, Abi has provided strong, thoughtful leadership to the Institute’s work in conflict zones around the world and served as a champion for the Institute’s conflict prevention work. While USIP is losing a valuable team member, I look forward to working with Abi and The Hague Institute as partners.”
