Roger D. Fisher, Harvard professor and giant in the field of conflict management and resolution, died at age 90 on August 25th. Fisher and his colleagues changed the way that we think about peace negotiations, teaching millions of people that success lays in resolving common problems rather than in defeating the other side. As co-author of the bestselling book, “Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In,” the reach of his ideas was remarkable; his formulation of “win-win” has proponents in almost every corner of the world. USIP has supported Harvard’s Program on Negotiation and the Conflict Management Group, both founded by Fisher. His work has also influenced courses in USIP’s Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding. We salute his achievements and mourn his passing.
