• While drafting its Women’s Toolkit for Collaborative Problem-solving, USIP convenes 100 Iraqi women leaders to forge a common vision. The resulting declaration has been signed by over 3,000 Iraqi women. Watch a video about the process.
• USIP partners with Iraqi media organizations and UNESCO to create guidelines aimed at preventing media incitement during the 2010 elections.
• USIP’s supports a series of dialogues among Iraqi minority group leaders resulting in the identification of shared goals (e.g. promoting nondiscrimination and equal rights) and the formation of the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities, a new coalition of minority rights civil society organizations. USIP continues to provide support to the new organization.
• In October, USIP brings together Iraqi minority MPs to establish the Iraqi Minority Parliamentary Caucus, which will work to promote minority rights and interests in Parliament and the government.
• USIP co-facilitates a dialogue of national reconciliation with its partner Ipalmo. Parliamentarians from all major political blocs attend and produce a signed agreement outlining action to be taken by the Council of Representatives, Government of Iraq, and Iraqi civil society in the pursuit of national reconciliation.
