SECRETARY OF STATE CLINTON TO ADDRESS U.S.-CHINA CONFERENCE
Day-Long Event Marks 40th Anniversary of President Nixon’s Trip to China
Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinksi, Brent Scowcroft,
and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will participate
(Updated March 5, 2012, WASHINGTON) - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will address participants at a day-long conference on March 7 marking President Nixon’s groundbreaking meetings with leaders of the People’s Republic of China 40 years ago. Her mid-afternoon remarks will serve as a bookend to remarks earlier in the day by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who will address the participants via live video link from Beijing. Secretary Clinton will speak at approximately 4:15 pm. Camera pre-set time is no later than 3:00 pm.
Other speakers throughout the day include former secretary of state Henry Kissinger and former national security advisers Zbigniew Brzezinksi and Brent Scowcroft. Panels throughout the day will feature prominent business leaders, diplomats, journalists, and analysts.
The conference, which is sponsored by the United States Institute of Peace and the Richard Nixon Foundation, in cooperation with the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, will examine the origins of Nixon’s trip, the current status of the bilateral relationship, and the outlook for the future.

The conference’s morning program will feature a keynote from Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, followed by discussions with former national security advisors Brent Scowcroft (moderated by David Ignatius) and Zbigniew Brzezinski (moderated by Margaret Warner). The lunch address will feature a discussion with former secretary of state Henry Kissinger, moderated by Tom Brokaw. The afternoon panels will include a wide-array of distinguished business leaders, diplomats, analysts, and journalists, including Ted Koppel, Fred Bergsten, Mike Chinoy, and Mike Lampton. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will speak at approximately 4:15 pm.
