The United States Institute of Peace mourns the loss of former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, who served on the Iraq Study Group, which the Institute convened in 2006.

“Larry Eagleburger was a long-time colleague with an exceptional career as a foreign service professional. He was the first career officer to rise to the position of Secretary of State. As Ambassador to the former Yugoslavia he counseled the Institute during its work in the Balkans, and he contributed greatly to the deliberations of the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan Congressionally-supported review,” said Richard H. Solomon, president of USIP.

“Our thoughts are with the Eagleburger family and with the former Secretary’s many friends and colleagues.”
