War and Peace: Preventing and Ending Conflicts: Chapter 5
UN Task Force Report Briefing
Following up the recently released report of the Task Force on the United Nations, Wallop, Schwartz and Nash will discuss the UN's performance with preventing and ending conflicts and building stable societies. Some of the key findings and recommendations include:
- While the Task Force does not endorse a standing UN military force, member-states must increase substantially the availability of capable, designated forces, properly trained and equipped, for rapid deployment to peace operations on a voluntary basis;
- The United States should support the creation of a Peacebuilding Commission, a Peacebuilding Support Office, and a voluntary peacebuilding support fund;
- Implementing quickly a UN policy of zero tolerance of sexual exploitation and abuse by UN peacekeepers.
